anemone question

After a weekend at my grandparents house, i came back to my house to find that my anemone was gone! I searched everywhere, and found this weird white macaroni thing blocking a hole at the side of a rock. I look at the entrance of the hole on the top, and there i saw the top of the anemone, 4 inches INSIDE of the rock. The hole look REALLY small and i never though it could squeeze itself inside of that, all the way to the bottom. My question is if it will ever get out of that, since its foot is not really attached to anything since its at the "exit" hole on the rock. Its foot look real vulnerable to anything that wants to nip at it, since its tentacles are inside of the rock.
(10 gal tank)

Can it manage itself in this hole? Is it natural for an anemone to take shelter in such a tight hole? Thanks.

PS: The "stem" of the anemone is usually orange, and the very bottom is PURE WHITE... can it change colors? or is the bottom always PURE WHITE?

Thanks a bunch because this is starting to freak me out.

I had a pair of Condy anemones a while back. They never hid in the rocks, but as much as I'd hate to say this.... One died and right before it did it turned white. I don't know what the cause of death was though. Can you post some pics of it?

I cant really see the anemone, only the very bottom of the foot from the bottom hole... Thats just pure white, but from the top hole, I can see the green tentacles in closed position.

There is a red box,and thats where the bottom of the foot is from the hole

My anemone never moved around/latched itself to a rock before, so i would think that it had to move itself in this 1 inch hole.

White means the anemone has lost the zooxanthellae that provide it with the sugars it needs to survive. Common causes are poor water conditions. Anemones need PERFECT natural sea water levels and proper lighting to live. If the lighting is sufficient, common causes of zooxanthellae expulsion are high Nitrate levels.
I'm sorry to say that without its zooxanthellae the anemone with die. It has retreated into the rock to do so. I am also sorry to say no anemone of any kind belongs in a 10 gallon; they are far, far too unstable to keep an anemone in.
