after taking the jag back to the store 2 day i noticed they had a small tilapia, i was wondering weather any one has kept one. i have done some rreading up on it and they is mixed fellings about the fish, they a re either exstreamly agressive or are peaceful if kept with fish that wont hassle him.

I have had the fortune to be able to breed butterkofferi many years back. You notice, I don't have them now. They can be quite a nasty critter at time. I had a gorgeous male that killed five female tankmates before I hit upon a congenial group. They do get rather large much like a frontosa. Good luck.

See my comment in African Cichlid post. I have a "Zebra" Tilapia sometimes called "Tiger" Tilapia. It is by far the most aggressive fish I've seen as well. I absolutely love him. Definately a one fish tank kind of deal. I've gotten away with having small bottom feeders in the tank with him for over a year but I'm fairly sure he took out one of them yesterday as the bottom feeder is not to be found and and the Tilapia refused to eat today (which is generally never a problem as they are hardy eaters).
I call their disposition "pissy". Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde can be referenced correctly. Sometimes they're swimming around not making a fuss and other times they're smacking the filter, knocking over fixtures on purpose, spitting gravel and rocks, attacking their reflection, scraping their teeth on the glass when you walk by, etc. These fish would bite you if you went swimming with them, no doubt about it. Mine has woken me up in the middle of the night for the racket in the tank.
Great fish, though. I love them.
