I have five yellow labs one is a female and is the domanate one in the tank. she is now about three inches insize. I have herd that the male will vibrate infront of the female to get her interested... however in this case its the female not the males. a moment ago she trapped a male on one of the caves and started to vibrate. she at times will follow a male around the tank. however she has yet to lay any eggs. Bit of a late reply, bad bad idea of moving the male with her. If the male goes into breeding mode again while the female is holding, it will stress her to the point she might lose the eggs or it could kill her.
I would leave the male in the main tank, having another male take over is potentially asking for a lot of trouble, once he establishes as the tank boss, then he will chase the other male.
To be brutally honest, I would keep a group of only 1 male to several female and not multiple males unless you have the females to go with them.
Hey gang, dont mean to change the topic, reading about the breeding of the yellow labs is very interesting. Can you take a look at my post and give me some insight, advice and tips? First time owning any cichlids, I bought 3 Yellow labs from PetCo. and will add 2-3 more in a week if these seem to be thriving.
Link is here with some questions, and seeking advice. Thanks for taking a look!
