depending on your water PH I would say it doesn't hurt.
Yellow labs like other african cichlids like ph 8 or something around that.
I have personnaly two yellow labs in a community tank with dwarf cichlids (apistogramma Borelli) who like PH 6 or around. All these guys are in an aquarium which has a PH of 6.8 to 7 and every body is happy. I don't know if the fact that these fishes are not directly coming from the wild makes them less sensisitve to the PH value as everybody is saying in the books or articles speeking about them.
