Arrow Yellow Lab Cichlid

Okay, If things go as planned I may end up with a spare 55 gallon fish tank. What will go well with a yellow lab and live happily in a 55? Just throw ideas out there. I am brainstorming to see if i can build a tank around this or if i should just stock something else.

In another post you indicated interest in rainbow fish for the 55 gal. Rainbows and cichlids require completely different water conditions. I would suggest that you decide on what species you wish to keep and then google info on tankmates for that species. The yellow labidochromis would do well with many other cichlids (there are thousands) while Rainbows would prefer softer water with much cooler temperatures. IMHO

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

Yes, i have posted two different threads on different types of fish. I'm just in the brainstorming phase right now. I'm basically throwing what i have interest in out there and getting ideas back so i can make a better decision on which idea i like better. I know the two are incompatible and were never intended to be housed in the same tank.

I am completely new to cichlids which is a lot of the reason i am asking for the forums help. I know there are thousands out there, which is why i would like to narrow the search. I prefer the help of people who actually know what they are talking about rather than talking to a fish store (we all know how misinformed they can be) or googling any more than i have to (we know how varied the information can get) initially. Trust me, i am no stranger to google and will do all of my research. I was just searching for some general compatability ideas so i know where to start.

Thanks for your insight though, i appreciate it. :)

Yellow labs are great fish, yellow only usually found in the world of salt! I have kept both labs and rainbows and found I got more enjoyment out of the labs. The behaviour of labs is fun too watch, also they are very hardy adaptive fish, with rainbows they really like shoals and a nice big open area... also, I have found lemon cichlids to be a great tank mate with labs, they are a pretty orange fish, I found that aggressions was low between these two species compared with others...

The colour of these fish really depend on what you feed them and how well maintained the tank is. If you do this right they practically glow! What are the parameters of your tap water? This plays a big role on the ease of keeping fish ie high PH African cichlids, low PH tropicals.

wondering is the beauty of mystery
Check out my 29g grow out (quite a mixed bunch)

like 1077 said there are 1000's that would work. here is list of what i have with my yellow lab:
Melanochromis interruptus
Melanochromis johannii
Pseudotropheus socolofi
Pseudotropheus crabro
Metriaclima estherae
Nimbochromis venutus
Iodotropheus sprengerae
hope this helps you out. these that i've listed can be aggressive and out right mean, just make sure there's plenty of hiding places.
