whats kind of cichlids would be best?

ok i am gonna straight a 20-55 gal predatory tank for me an my family i've had a natural predatory tank before an 2 other tanks. i was looking at several types of fish an i come to either cichlids or a puffer or 2. kids like puffers but seem like alot of up keep my dad says cichlids. he had oscars an convicts before. he said i could tak his 20 gal if i didnt want to buy an get a few convicts. are there any other cichlids that would be a good idea? also if they breed kids would like it alot thats why my dad sent me toward convicts. will a pink convict an regular convict breed? or other easy cichlids that breed an i could straight in a 20-55gal tank thanks

Convicts are the guppies of cichlids. LOL Yes a pink and a regular will breed. A 20 gallon would be pushing it for1 pair. A 20 long would be better and a 55 would be preferred. Or you could breed Firemouths. They're harder to sex than the Convicts so your best bet would be to buy a group of 6 juveniles and wait for a pair to form then rehome the others. And, again, a 55 would be best. You might even be able to do 2 pair in a 55. You would need lots of rock and wood to break up the line of sight so that each pair has their own territory.

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty

You could also go with different types of dwarf cichlids. For example, Bolivian Ram Cichlids, Kribensis (my favorite), Red Jewel Cichlids, and many others. You could also go with an asst. of African Cichlids which are more aggressive but smaller then the larger South American Cichlids.
