I was just wondering what else I could put in my tank with my new BRP? I want him to have a tank mate but am not sure if I want to get another BRP so am looking into what to get as far as tank mates for him.
I have heard some people say you can have a betta in with them but I am not sure about that one. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks all who stop in to try and help!!! :-D
I have him in a 40G all by himself. I was thinking of maybe a betta but not sure if that would work with him or not. He is extremely shy and never comes out of hiding so I figure if I get him a tank mate or 2 he will be more likely to come out. I am just not sure what to get!!!
I just went out and bought another one until I can figure out something like a smaller south American cichlid to put in with it if I do at all. I think the 2 BRP's in one 40G tank is plenty for the size they will eventually get!!!
Thanks for stopping in and asking what you did though I appreciate you trying to help!!! :-D
View attachment 52980I have an update on my BRP's. I still have them in the 40G tank for right now b/c I am moving in the middle of May and am planning on getting a 100G tank for them an 2 tiger oscars. I am going to do sand and also have 2 powerful filters running one at each side. Luckily living in the dessert I have found some really awesome rocks that look cool and don't cost anything and also help balance out the pH in my tank. They are limestone and work great. Spike is about 4.5in and Max is about 2.5in as of now. They get a long great. The only thing occasionally when Max goes into Spike's cave Spike nudges him out. They don't fight at all he just nudges him out. There are 4 rather large caves I made so Spike and Max can go into them and not have to be sideways and then there are some smaller ones as well. But they are great together.
Spike likes to hide unless it is feeding time except when my mom comes over. She keeps telling me she is going to steal him from me but she also thinks she can just take him home and put him in a big bowl like the goldfish you can win at the fare...lol. Once I told her how much it takes to take care of him and how big of a tank she will need I think she has changed her mind. I think I might get her a 55G tank and stand for her birthday in June and then take care of the cleaning aspect of it and all she has to do is feed them. I can't give her Spike or Max b/c they are my babies and are so cute and I love their personalities. I will post some pics too.
Also can tiger oscars go in with them? I have 2 in with them now and they seem to be ok and they play a lot and dig together a lot. I am thinking more of when the oscars get older? And yes I know they are in a smsall tank for the sizes they will be but this is just until I get moved next month. Right now they are all small enough to handle a 40G for a few weeks until I get a 100G or 150G.
