I recall a couple who came into small local fish store one day while I was there, carrying two very large cooler's.
Inside each cooler was one Oscar. Each Oscar was easily,,,Twelve maybe fourteen inches long.(they were huge)
They claimed the fish were three year's old.
Those I have kept grew from selling size of three inches to maybe ten inches inside two year's.
Genetic's also must surely play a part.(some fish will grow larger,some won't)
Those two fish in the cooler's were easily the largest I have ever seen except on vacation in florida, where they grow quite large in local canal's.
