Hi all,

New to the game as other posts in the setup forum would suggest.

I have just bought 3 x Tapajos Orange Head Chichlids

I am told the scientific name is Greophagus Ria Tapojos these are about 1 1/2 inches long and have been put into a tank with 4 young angles (1 inch to 1 1/2 inch) and a couple of spotted cats.

Tank is 4 x 2 x 2 and just coming off its first cycle.

Can anybody tell me about these fish and what to expect, I must admit it was an impulse buy sort of (they had an adult which was caught my eye), The guy at the shop said they were placid for a Chichlid and I should be Ok as long as I kept egg layers.

Q's : How big will they grow, I am niot worried at the moment about the population of the tank but I don't want to overstock juvenilles.

Q: How long will they live

Q: Any other things to be carefull ofF.

I am proposing frozen food 1 day a week (brine shrimp) and granules 5 days a week plus a day off.

My intention is a Chichlid tank with fewer larger specimen fish,

Q. How many Chichlids, ie ) angles, small catfish etc can this tank support. (filtration is a Fluval extern 405 cannister & internal powerhead fitted with sponge filter approximately 1 foot long rated at 1200 l/hr)

Any help, Any suggestions welcome.

Awesome fish and ill asume you got a great deal on them if you bought them on an impulse.

they should get to 8-10"

life span about 12 years

"things to be careful of" these fish spend most of there day sifting through sand so if you have gravel it is suggested to get rid of it and add sand. these fish will have a pecking order with in there species and give push each other around often with out any damage done, more of a show.

Food wise they will eat about anything. Id feed my earthearts worms and shrimp 1 day a week and pellets the other days.

You should be fine with all the fish you have through out there lives.

Guy's Thanks

Firstly Blue you are right on the money here in Australian the generic name for them is Orange guts but the pic you have is pretty much right on the money.

The name was my interprettation from a mobile call when I rang the store but I was not far away :)

(FYI, I paid AUS $100 for three I assume that is about $80 American)

Gump,

Again thanks, they do appear a very active fish and they feed off the bottom as suggested. I would certainly say they have more personality than the others in the tank.

Thanks again.
