Hi- I've got a quick question. Currently we have 3 Melanochromis auratus and 6 red zebra cichlids, along with one 6" pleco in a 30 gallon tank. We just recently purchased an 80 gallon tank and hope to have it set up and running in a month or so. So, I was just wondering if this tank will be big enough for all the fish. I googled and found out the cichlids will all top out around 5" and the pleco speaks for itself. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
we curently have a 6inch pleco, 4 inch Yellow labs and lots of smaller Melanochromis cyanerhabdos in a 55 and with proper filtration and water changes they do fine, im sure that yours will to.
M. arautus is one of the more aggressive Mbuna for it's size. It's not the most pugnacious, but it rates higher than P. zebra. Make sure you have plenty of space and hiding places for the other fish in the tank although the plecostomus should be alright with it's armor plating.
