:-shock:.....my current tank sprung a leak so the 3 remaining zebras are currently in my 5 gal QT. i ran out and purchased a new 55 gal and i am in the process of transfering the water over from the previous 55.......i lost all but about 10 gallons of water from the old tank!!! do you think i will be ok adding almost 90% new water?!?!?!
Yes. But you have to dechlorinate the water and re-acclimate your fish as if they were new fish from the petshop.
Don't forget to dechlorinate the water first before running the filter. Otherwise, the chlorine will kill the bacteria in your filter and you will need to cycle the tank again.
get a bucket and scoop all the tank water in you can then fix things from there next time. this way you can have your fish safe and then acclimate them proprerly into new water without running a risk of shock
I was only able to save about 5 gallons of old water....i drip acclimated them when returning them to the enw 55 gallon. Everyone is doing great now!! They seem very happy!!!
