I've recently set up a 50g planted w/CO2 about a month ago. I have transferred 7 zebra danio into the tank from my old 10g. I would like to see in the new 50g 4-5 German Blue Rams, 3-5 Angelfish (scalare), maybe some cories or a small pleco (perhaps farfello sp?) and possibly a 2-3 SAE for the BBA or an amano/nerite/fiddler crab team to handle that instead.
Personally, 4 - 5 Rams in there seems a bit too much! Most likely, they will spawn and if they do, I don't think the tank could handle 4-5 rams plus cories or a pleco! I really think that you should stick to a pair of rams for this tank...
I would also say no to fiddler crabs as they are a brackish water animals, so they don't really mix well with this set-up! They also like to have places out of the water and they must be easily accessed too! But the shrimp and snails are for this tank..
Thanks aussie! I've read about angels and rams not liking active fish (danio & SAE). Is this a concern or is it alright? Also the danio are nearly 5 years old and may not last another year or two. I actually had to mercy kill one today with a gastric tumor
I say the rams and the danios would mix as they live in different water levels, so they hardly see those danios!
With the angel, maybe not, I heard that zebras (or most danios) will nip the angels flowing fins, but then again, I seen a few tanks were there was zebras mixed with angels. Maybe keeping a Gourami in the tank instead???
Or maybe increase the shoal size of the zebras or have another small shoal of rasboras/tetras??
So I ended up with 4 baby angelfish. They are incredible to watch. They like to chase the bubbles up the co2 ladder and are getting along fine with the z.danios. They are also eating BBA growing on driftwood(?!), which is good because it had been a small challenge to feed them with the danios swarming the surface.
Here is a picture of the tank itself. I have some video of the angels going after the co2, but haven't uploaded it yet.
Yes. Eventually a black backing. I've like them in the past. My hope is that the alternanthia and amazon will grow to camouflage some of the equipment Posted via Mobile Device
I got it from a guy on plantedtank.net, Tom Barr. He has a site BarrReport which he sells from too!
