Im just looking to have a nice severum set up. Im not into breeding. I just would like more than one to look cool. Maybe a sev and a couple blue acaras? I just want a tank that will look neat. What do you think I should do then? I do plenty of water changes and have an excellent filter on my tank as of the bioload goes. I had three 8 inch oscars that did fine with my set up.

I wouldn't add the rotkeil, even though they stay smaller then the other severums that is still gonna be a 8-10 inch fish that is pretty high bodied. Picture all your fish when they are full grown. The tank is only 48 inches long and those three fish alone can take up 34 inches of the 48 inch space. That's not very much room for fish that are territorial.

Get one sev and get smaller fish. Blue acaras are fine. Angelfish fish might work as well. 75 is waaay to small for 3 oscars, 1 is pushing it. Oscars can get 14"+. Try a school of high bodied tetras like columbian tetras. Corys may be a nice touch as well.

I think a tank of one severum and like 5 angels would look great. One angel was recently added to my tank and i wouldn't expect them to have so much personality. Blue acara would work. Sev maybe something like a firemouth or a jd with some top level dithers. Silver dollars are great if you arent trying for a planted tank, though mine havent touched plants since i got them the first day... depends on what you want exactly. do you want small dithers or medium sized fish?

I would like some medium sized fish. Even though I really like the look of the red face sev, I think Im just going to let mine grow up and see if they pair. Then I'll have to watch the aggression from there. The blue acara would look real nice. Same with the angel fish!! I hope they grow some what quick because I love how they look full grown!

With 2 severums you have next to no room for anything else in a 75. Maybe a school of dithers for the top of the water column and a small clean up crew.

If a pair should form, then you'll maybe have a tank full of babies and bioload would increase significantly with the several SMALL feeding's per day that juvenile fish need to achieve good growth rate, which could/should be around one inch per month.(wiil need to be two inches in my view before you could sell them?)
Keep in mind that adult fish will be very protective of fry and Severums could make life tough on tankmates with fry present.
I understand that a couple fish such as Severums in 75 gal tank doesn't seem too much at three inches, but with good care they will grow fast and quite large in my expierience.
Clean up crew for this tank will only increase the waste level making large water changes mandatory for the severum's create a fair amount of waste by themseves and as mentioned,,,if Adult's spawn ,,life would be tough on other fishes seen as threat to fry.
Plant's other than Anubia, attached to wood or rock,or large sword plant's, may not fair too well with the Severums who will snack on them or uproot them as they grow larger.

Were it me,and it ain't,,, and I was not interested in producing a breeding pair,, I might consider one Severum, one Blue Acara, one Firemouth, one Convict for 75 gallon tank and maybe one Bristlenose or other fairly small pleco.
Just my two cent's.

Yeah I think I might have to only have one. I mean a pair would be cool but that's too much work with the fry. If I were to get the 6 inch sev, could I put a smaller one of each of the fish you mentioned. Say a 2-3 inch?

I have done so .
A pair of nearly any type cichlid can be iffy proposistion with regards to their getting along long term unless they are mated, and then they seldom welcome interlopers.
This is why I suggested one of each of the fish mentioned.
If the fish you place with the severum are smaller, then providing several places for smaller fish to retire to if larger severum begins to assert him/her self will help until pecking order is established.
larger severum may give chase to the smaller fish on occasion but is doubtful that harm will come to the smaller fish unless there is no where to move to to avoid the larger fish.
after the Acara, firemouth, get some size,, there should be little issues.IME

a rotkeil sev would work great with other fish depending on the temperament. My 75 is over stocked atm (mom decided to get some fish for it. What exactly are you thinking? Id sujest cory's, hoplos, or loaches (angelicus or yoyo) for the clean up crew, medium sized barbs/ big bodied tetra's would be good mid water fish and giant danios or rainbows would be great for the upper levels. Also could do a school of angelfish with the sev and a small clean up crew or something. Another tank mate you might wanna check out would be a blue acara.

A few ideas from me would be
1x Rotkeil Sev
1x Blue Acara
6x Panda Garra (cleaning crew)
8x Congo Tetra
8x Turquoise rainbows

1x Rotkeil Sev
5x Angelfish
8x (insert decent sized cory)
1x BN pleco

1x Rotkiel sev
12x Tiger Barb
1x Senegal Bichir
6x Angelicus Botia

These are just quick ideas I had to give you a place to start.

Also try to get the sev last, or you'll have to do some rearanging of the tank. Also with all cichlids its hit or miss if they like the fish you add or not. Them being territorial they may be fine with anything you add or may go ballistic on it.
