One of our red-turquoise discus, Convict, died yesterday. For the last couple weeks s/he was really shy, hiding in the back of the tank behind the plants. So I expected this. For a while now he has had a large lump in his abdominal area (looks like he swallowed a large grape). I am worried because it looks like one of the other red-turq's has a small lump forming.

I was hoping it was full of eggs or something but I don't think that is the case afterall.

Any ideas?

Probably constipation. They can't poop!! You didn't allude to your feeding regimen, but veggys, on a regular basis are a must. My discus have a slice of zucchini in the tank at all times. I also feed romaine lettuce and spinach. Vegetable flakes or pellets are fed 3x-4x a week. I have a smorgasbord here of live, freeze-dried, frozen and prepared foods(flakes and pellets) and feed all regularly.
