Rams squaring off....

I finally got the Bolivians Ram I've wanted.
I purchased four of them on Saturday. They are still very small and showing a little, but some color. So far, unable to tell who is going to be male/female. They were a little shy at first, hanging tightly together but after about 12 hours they were off and exploring. This morning I noticed two of them engaged in the stare down, proceeded by head butts to locked lips. It didn't last long at all and once they released they continued to hang out peacefully. Does this mean that I have two males in the group???

After sitting in front of the tank for about an hour I notice that the four rams take turns squabbling amongst each other. They each take turns being the aggressor. I suppose this is typical behavior among youngsters? They are all equal size (1") size and they all look almost identical. How soon will it be before I will be able to determine who is male/female?

I've never had the Bolivian rams, but my young German blue ram *just* started to show signs of male-ness. I thought he was a female when I bought him. He's about 1.5" long or so, so you might still have a while left.

Thanks for the info. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whatever the sexes end up being that I'll be able to keep all four of them together in this tank. They are such characters and soooo fun to watch.

I find that ALL my rams fight until paired off .
And some that fought like males have ended up female .
I'd say " sit back and enjoy the show "
