Please help confirm African cichlid ID

Hey guys, I got this cichlid from Petco over a year ago from an "assorted tank". Best to my guess, it's a Red Zebra, or at least closest to a red Zebra? Am I right or way off? Also, I thought at first it was a "he" because I saw an egg spot developing, but it's still just the one spot and not to distinct so do you think it's a female? Thanks!

Yes, this is a red zebra cichlid. How long have you had the cichlid for? Its hard to tell the sex without knowing that.

Only way to accurately sex mbuna or any cichlid for that matter is by venting. By the looks of him he is too small to vent accurately. You will have to wait. Both males and females can get egg spots. By the way it does look like a red zebra but if it was in an "assorted tank" there is a high chance it is a hybrid. I would not sell any fry from this fish if you plan on breeding.
