When i purchased my Platinum Angelfish I was told that they are a relatively new thing in the Aquatic world. I heard that they were really rare, and I bought 2 of the 4 fish the only known successful breeder had. Is there anyone else out there with Platinums???
Very. I bought 2 of the 4 fish the only known successful breeder in the world had for under 120 $ each. I LOVE them. They may lack color, but they have an unusual pattern in their fins that become more visible as they age and get bigger. I haven't heard anything else about their availability since, so I was wondering if they have caught on or not.
I bought them about 10 years ago when I was with my dad when we went to Raugusa, France for an international fish convention ( I don't remember the actual name of the convention or breeder). He got the pair we bought to spawn only once successfully, he sold most of them out to other people. This picture is about 5 years old, and of the original Platinum pair. I was able to get a hold of 2 of the spawns from them, and they are doing fine in my 29 gallon setup. I have never heard of Platinums being elsewhere in the hobby, but I guess that some of the fish my dad sold must have started breeding and other people caught on to their unique beauty. :) The original pair cost 120 $ a fish, but they died a couple years ago. :( Glad to hear that other people are taking interest in Platinums though. :) I didn't have to pay for the pair I currently have, but I still think they were worth their parents original investment. :)
