I used to combine CaribSea AC Mix (dull/ugly) with Seafloor(small shells). check their Web.
For Lake Tankgs, used pink samoan sand (dont know if still avail) and sometimes with other fine substrate made for s/w such as black sand, etc.
Bear in mind, sand is harder to vacuum. I usually used such sand for Lake Tang specimen which required sandy bottom for spawning or for fish which are found near sandy bottom.
BTW, all these substrates are made by CaribSea.Just dont used the live substrate made for both Ac and S/W. I dont believe in such as any substrates will become live with time. Also, dont believe in packaged Live Substrate with no expiration date.
There are so many to choose from CaribSea..
