P. Taeniatus compatability

Hi all, I am going to put a pair of P. taeniatus in my split 38 gallon, would I be able to to keep Nannostomus Trifasciatus?

What do you mean by split? Do you mean you split the tank in half with a divider. What are the dimmensions of the space the pair would be kept in. The fish you want seem to be fast enough to avoid the Taeniatus but it largely depends on tank space. I say overall you should be fine.

Hmm 20" is a little tight. Do you plan to keep them like that for life because that's the size of a ten gallon. Not a lot of room. But considering these are dwarf cichlids and are not that aggressive I think you will be fine. Just make sure to provide plenty of cover for both pair and the other fish.

Yeha I have several Amazon Sword plants... the volume of the water wouldn't present any problems but I see what you are saying... and I plan to keep a P. pulcher on the other side and they might cause a few problems if they are breeding. I might just rehall my tank and not divide it and just do all taeniatus and 12 of the pencilfish (the deal is 10 for 17 and I'd buy 2 more) and just spend the money from the divider on some wood.(petco now has some wood for a fairly good deal). What i plan to do is to basically breed taeniatus and get good money for them because they all shipped from africa in my area just make a profit and have fun. I guess I don't really want to get rid of the kribs but I will if it's for the better.

I would say try it out with both pairs. Both pairs are fairly non aggressive and quite small also. As long as you have plenty of cover I honestly don't see a problem aggression wise. But hybridization is a factor since the pairs are so closely related. I have seen bonded cichlid pairs mate with similar species from another pair so just watch for that.
