I have been debating an Oscar. My husband wants to do a 55g for an 1-2 Oscar and 6 Tinfoil Barb. I, however, think much more room would be required. Seeing as I have not much experience with Oscars, I would enjoy input on size requirements and Oscar information in general.
1 Oscar requires a 75G tank minimum, being alone. Two would be at least 125 gallons with a ton of filtration. The barbs can easily reach 10-12" in length each, if not more. You are looking at a very large tank with massive filtration if you plan on doing that setup.
Looking at how much waste an Oscar prodcues, and how messy eaters they are, a filter rated at least twice as big for the aquarium is needed (IE, 75G tank w/ a 150G filter, or two 75's).
