Blended beef heart, earthworms(from a fish store, not dug up out your garden), shrimps as well as cichlid pellets, peas and lettuce are all good alternatives to keep your Oscar on a balanced diet. An Oscar needs a variety of foods with high protein in order to stay healthy.
I should have explained that the shrimps and baby scallops were the cheapest frozen store brand. The Oscars were always on them like a duck on a June bug though.
It is not a good idea too feed beef heart. Mammal meat should not be fed too any fish because it is much harder for a fish to digest it and can lead to "obese" fish. Find a good quality pellet like NLS(NEW LIFE SPECTRUM), omega one, or hikari cichlid gold. I highly reccomend NLS. This will provide almost all the essentials your oscar will need. You can supplement with almost anything but krill, mysis shrimp, and market prawns are probably your better options. And make sure too keep the water clean.
thanks for all the info guys i did forget to say that i had given them Beef heart.
