Red face New to hobby and need some advice.

Hi,

I kept a small aquarium many moons ago containing community fish. After moving house the aquarium got stored away and hasn't seen the light of day in 10 years. I never fell out of love with the hobby just never got around setting up the tank again. But my desire in recent times has been reignited by cichlids, I am fasinated by them. So I pestered my better half until she succumbed to getting me a Fluval Vicenza 180l aquarium. I am hoping to keep some dwarf cichlids . I will probably have nomerous questions over the coming weeks and I hope to get some good advice here.
My first question relates to the background I am building ( styrofoam method ) as I think this is a better option than a paper stick on one. Is it ok and safe to have the heater behind the background as I would like to have it hidden and would I need to have gaps in the stryofoam to aloow for water movement. Because the external filters ' pipes ' are preinstalled on the bottom of the tank they will remain in front of the background and I will hide with some rocks or bogwood but its the heater thats worrying me.
Hope somebody can help and any advide is greatly appreciated.

hello and welcome.
i am unable to assist you with the backing for the tank.
i hope someone will be able to help you.
i've got the same as you just it's the 240l .
i used an internal backing paper, and managed to hide the equipment using
large bits of wood, and tall plants.

thanks Willow,

Its just that Ive seen so many people make their own background ( on you tube etc. ) and I think they look good. I am going to start work on it in the morning at the moment I am goint to try to leave a compartment at the back for the heater.
