new firemouth.. brag thread :)

so at my good LFS the other day, one of the people that I trust there talked me into taking a firemouth home for my 110 with my dempsey. She had a few, but one was a raging jerk and was keeping all the other ones down. one of the bullied firemouths was gorgeous, just very pale from being stressed, and his tailfin had shown signs of stress, but not so much damage. he is about 4.5". I took my sweet time drip acclimating him to my 110... and I didnt have a choice!

before i left for the LFS my tank was almost 90 degrees! the thermostat on the heater crapped out :( but I had a spare. so he lived in a bucket with a small heater until the tank had come down over the course of several hours. anywhoo, almost immediately after adding him to the tank he was off exploring in the dark. by the next morning, his fins, while still a little roughed up, stopped showing signs of active tattering
(and now are actually healing! after only a couple days!) his colors have started to rebound, and his personality is really shining through. he is one happy, curious little fish! and amazingly takes NO bs from jack lol

pics to follow!! cute little guy :)

Must see pics!! Firemouths are really cool fish. My female I had previously I thought was a male because she was so gorgeously colored. Then she laid eggs so I knew she was female. It was tough losing her. The one I have now I think might be female only because she is pretty drab colored. But it's still young (about 2" or so) so I'm hoping the colors will start to shine with some good food and care. Cool personalities though. It's cute how they spit sand everywhere but kinda annoying at the same time because my driftwood and plants get covered in sand. lol

Here she is, at least I think its a she. the camera washes her colors some, but she is still light. tail is still a little bit tattered, but she has come MILES since the fish tank in the store where she was getting beat up :)
