My Hekali is spinning :cry:

I was in the process of moving my 210 litre tank and placed my african cichlids in a bucket of aquarium water while I cleaned and emptied it. I say they were in the bucket a bit over half an hour. I had been checking on them and all seemed well until I noticed that my male hekali was laying on his side. I panicked and put him in the 500 litre tank, he then started swimming in a spiral motion. Now he won't stop and is laying on his side, he has got a ring between his eyes, seems a bit red around the fins. I gave him broadspectrum antibiotics and marine salt in my fishpital. Please someone help me!

I apologize for not getting back to you quicker. Sounds like you fish may have suffered from oxygen deprivation (you didn't say how many fish or what size the were in the bucket), whirling disease (mad cow for fish), or he may have gotten chilled and fell to some other malady. I hope he is better and you haven't lost him.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I had to put him out of his misery. He didn't get any better but what you said sounds like what happened to him. I only had bout 7 fish in the bucket, the hekali was the largest. He was about 15 cm long.I won't be moving any more of my tanks around. Just too risky. He was my favourite fish but have bought a yellow peacock I have no idea what type but he is about 17 cm long. Very pretty.
