So I recently bought my african cichlid (blue zebra cichlid) a marimo moss ball, for the first two weeks he never even touched the thing, then i started to feed him zuchini and he dosnt necessarily eat the moss ball, he starts pushing it and poking at it and now my moss ball is falling apart and im getting frustrated, what should I do?

Cichlids and plants are unfortunately an iffy thing, they'll often rip them apart. As for the moss ball and his not paying attention to it until recently: Moss balls are a GREAT place for food to stick, that's why they make such lovely additions to fry tanks and shrimp tanks. They gather particles and food over time, and fish and critters are drawn to them. Unfortunately when fish like THAT are drawn to them, damage is often massive.

On the plus side, I've heard you can take chunks of the moss balls and put them elsewhere, they eventually round up and become new moss balls. Not sure of that fact, but it's what I read on them. Try to save some pieces and pop them into a small plastic breeder box with a bit of substrate, see if you can't save some. =)
