Kribensis concern

I bought a pair of Kribensis cichlids a few weeks ago and absolutely LOVE them! A few days ah, I noticed my male's mouth was opened and hasn't shut since (also looks as if he's breathing rapidly). He's also not as active anymore and seems to prefer hanging out inside their "home". I wasn't sure if this is characteristic of them if they're breeding or if he's actually sick. I'm quite concerned! Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum

Sounds like maybe a water quality issue. Have you tested the water? Can you provide the specifics about your tank?
