Sorry I was not here earlier. African Cichlids and South American Cichlids really should not be mixed in the same aquarium. They have different signals of agression which each species may see as an opposite sign of agression. Keeping Cichlids can be very difficult in a Cichlid community as each have their own species agression and of course like people they can all have their own individual parameters of that agression.
Jack Dempseys and Firemouths are from South America
For Lake Malawaiin Cichlids I would suggest not having a tank smaller than 55 gallons to keep most of the species. Yellow Labs tend to be actually a more passive species in comparison to others from the lake and most of the species can do quite severe damage if terroritorial agression is not monitored.
