Introducing a large female Red Devil to a male Red Devil

Hello,

I am curious if anyone has experience with Red Devils. I have about a 10" Male Red Devil soon to be in a 50 gal. and I am thinking of getting another 10" female as a tank mate. I've read that I should have a tank separater when introducing the female to the tank, and carefully to watch thier behavior. If they are aggressive twards each other, which is what I expect, then it may not be a good idea to remove the separater.

Is that correct? Is there anything else I should be concered with? Would it be benificial to introduce both of them to the new tank at the same time?Any information is appreciated and thanks for viewing!

Red devils get thier name for a reason. They are extremely hard on mates and it's quite common for the male to kill the smaller females(or sometimes vice versa). 50 gallons isn't even big enough for one red devil IMO. They need atleast a 75, bigger for a pair. Do the math. IF you were to divide the tank that's 25 gallons per fish. Your tank isn't even 4ft. I would have nothing less than a 6ft tank for a pair of RD. Sometimes that can be risky. IF you do give them proper space definatly get a divider and plenty of hiding spaces.

Thanks for the reply. I guess that answers my question about whether or not to add another fish. Looks like he's gonna be lonely in the 50 gal unless I decide to sell him...
