Hi. I am trying to identify what i think is a cichlid. he was taken in a cruelty case and no one has any idea. Sorry about the photos, didn't realize how hard it is to take a pic of a moving fish. he is about 6-8 inches long. thanks!
oh. he has been there several weeks.. he must be terribly stressed. you should have seen the tank before they cleaned it - you couldn't tell there was a fish in there...
The fish you have is a tilapia most likely Tilapia Buttikoferi. VERY aggressive cichlid. They are one of many africans that can hang with large central american cichlids. I have seen them make red devils and jaguar cichlids look soft. They need a big tank and heavy filtration and choose tank mates wisely.
