At this size, could be either or. Both are beautiful fish and I would be happy with either.
Your fish looks to be a young male but that is all I would be fairly certain of given their strong resemblance to each other.
At eight months it should be easier to determine. I will say I have noticed that some fish stores, may carry the Green Terrors,Texas cichlids, and or Dempsey's but do not always provide accurate signs on the tank if any. They may carry the Dempsey's for example and then when they are sold, they receive perhaps some Texas cichlids but do not bother to change the identifying signs on the tank.
Not much difference between these two fish (Texas Dempsey)with regard to habits, feeding, and water chemistry in my opinion but one is South American, and the other is native to the U.S.
Both do fairly well in varying water parameters in my expierience.
Sorry this doesn't help much with proper identification.
