hormoned african cichlids, how do you know if your fish has been juiced?

hey i was just at a lfs looking at some different types of peacocks when another customer started talking about how some cichlids could be hormoned? i ended up getting 7 fish most are 3" or slightly bigger some had some nice color developing but others were still sporting their juvinile colors with just a hint of whats to come... what i am wondering is if i the ones that i picked that had some color were infact juiced....

i dont have a camera or i would post a few pictures...

I usually buy cichlids from trusted breeders in my area because I dont really trust stores when it comes to africans. Between mislabeled fish, sketchy crosses and now hormones, its just easier to look up the local aquarium/cichlid club and ask around for the trusted breeders.

I guess the short answer to your question is you can't tell.
