HELP! My male convict is eating my female convict!

I'm just joking lol. Actually it has been at least 3 months since my pair of black convicts have had their batch of fry. Now the pair are back to being color full again. Male is getting a darker bottom and female is getting a beautiful orange coloration on it.

This morning it looked like the male was trying to eat and abuse the female and she has been pretty quiet with a full belly. I am assuming that they have an aggressive mating ceremony but have no idea.

I think that they are going to eat the 3-4 month year old batch of fry so I don't know what to do!

Anything else that people want to know and help me?

So yeah is the male going to kill or breed aggressively?

I'm glad it's not true. lol I know nothing about convicts but I do know that some fish do have pretty rough courtships and mating.I'm sure someone will come along shortly and answer your questions. Good luck with your fish and fry. :)

Yes, the male can get pretty rough during courtship. Once they lay eggs and have wigglers they may or may not eat the older fry. How big is the tank and are there any other fish in the tank besides the convicts?

Some of the older fry will probably survive. Before you know it you'll have a tankful of convicts. They breed like rabbits and are good parents.

I used to breed them and jewel cichlids. I don't recall them being horribly abusive, but I do remember them as being good parents. Providing hiding places helps.
