Uh... Hi Steve, welcome to the fish forum! Please don't pay attention to molly, we've discovered shes one fish short of a school.

Your Oscar is probably just shy. You've only had him for a day he's more then likely in shock from the move from the pet store and now hes in a totally new tank. He'll get used to it and start to recognize you, and come out a lot. How big is your tank? Do you have room for another? that might make him feel a little better too.

Ha, sounds like hes feeling more at home. Have you looked into the cycling process for when you set your 30 gallon up?

yes I have.. I hear you need at least a fish or two for a cycle to even happen. so right now its just oscar int he 30 gal and I use top fin cycle stuff in the bio wheel once a week, thatz now I cycled my 10 gal and I didnt loose any fish

By no means do you HAVE to have a fish to cycle your tank. I know many people prefer a fishless cycled, less wasted money on fish that way (Plus really who likes to scoop out their little dead friends)

You just need a source of ammonia for this, you can either buy pure ammonia, or use fish flakes!!! Theres a whole thing on it on this forum!!

Uh oh, loosing colour is not good, it's due to poor water quality. Because your cycling your thirty gallon with the Oscar in it, your tank will be having ammonia and nitrite spikes. You need to be doing daily water changes of 20-25% to give your oscar a fighting chance. Do you have a water testing kit? If you don't now is the time, I recommend API liquid master test kit with ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH tests.

Lol you bet I know where Courtice is, I'm actually picking up a used aquarium from someone on the Courtice Bowmanville boarder (I believe this is in the boonies) on Saturday. I can't wait!

Sorry it took several days to respond to this, the sites been offline for a couple days and I've been unable to access it.

the faded coler will happen with the new tank but it shouldnt last too long. but seeing as how an oscar can get up to 16 inches long they need at least a 55. preferably a 100 gal then u could get him some oscar buddies and make him happier
