i completely agree with lupin also cory cats any kind of tetra otos can be tough to feed i'd do a google seach on how to feed them before you buy them they deffinately need some special feeding attention the ram with always claim flat spots as it's territory but it wont chase other fish like it will chase a disliked other ram you can kind of train rams to not be jerks too..they're very smart if i have a ram that is being rediculasly agressive i chase him a llitle with my algea scrapper after about a week he started to figure it out now i just put a finger on the glass and he knows lol

yeah cyprinids stress out amazon fish it's just too weird a colision of worlds ...like a sumo wrestler at a boxing match ... cleverly backwards rams being from brazil and barbs from the orient ha ha biotope aquariums people like the or lothe them it's the way it should be melting pots are for new yorkers not fish. that is until there's an abe lincon fish but thats a whole other tangent...any yes this means i think fish are racist..masachanistic too hahaha but yeah when matching fish try to match their river pond lake etc mates, being sure not to include their preditors thats what makes a successful tank

Unless you're a Denison barb. I keep a school of them with my rams and they get along great. Denison's are probably the most peaceful barbs I've ever seen. But they'd be much too large to house in a 10gl. I just wanted to add my 2 cents about certain barbs that will mix well with dwarf cichlids :-D

I have a school of 5 green tiger barbs with a female blue ram and she is a very gutsy little girl. she holds her own and is healthy but this isnt something to try if youre a novice, if you try it i would have a q tank ready to separate if it doesnt work out. a pair of rams would do fine in a 10 gallon but that is as small as you should go. mine spawned like crazy. if you get a pair i would not get too many other fish since they will be trying to breed most likely and will stress themselves chasing other fish away. About the barbs, all im saying is its not impossible if you know what youre working with

Tiger barbs might work with rams, but only in a much larger tank. I'd say 20g minimum for tiger barbs as they really need a lot of swimming room. A school of smaller tetras should work just fine, though. There are plenty of tetras that would work: neons, cardinals, ember flame, black neons, glowlights, lemons, pristella, bloodfins, etc etc. Cories would also work, but the ram will spend most of its time near the bottom so you'd be a little cramped for space and wouldn't have much going on in the mid to upper regions of the tank.
