Geophagus Sp. Red Head Topajos

Hi all, I was looking for a cool species to keep and ran into the Red Head Topajos. The biggest tank I have is a 38 gallon. Would this even work for one pair and if so what is the maximum. I would be willing to rehaul my tank for this fish so all info is welcome.

38 gallon :
Pelvicachromis Taeniatus Nigerian Red not yet breeding pair
4 Pangio Kuhli
12 Hemmigrammus Bleheri
2 Botia Lohachata
1 Botia Straita
1 Ancistrus Sp.
6 Poecilia Reticulata

The Wet Spot Portland Oregon!!!!!!

ADA: Do!aqua Iwagumi 10 gallon size!
7 Clown Killies
7 Ghost shrimp

geos are earth movers and like smaller substrates....they do not get too big but the bigger footprint of your tank the better. nice choice though

So what would you say...I would get silica sand and have some well rooted/slash potted plants. Also some wood and rocks for breeding

They really should be kept in a colony setting and 55 gallons is what I would consider the minimum for that 75 gallons being preferred. Kribs could work in a large enough tank but they will up root plants.

A pair of firemouths will do just fine in a 38 assuming it is a 3ft tank. Some fast target fish will work as well.

Okay cool, and kribs would be okay in a 20 gallon right, with all the assorted caves and such. And yes a 38 is 3FT long

Yes a pair of kribs should be ok in a 20 gallon long. If I remember right they do not get as big as firemouth cichlids.

Not a 20 gallon normal though? And I already have a pair of pelvicachromis taeniatus in my 38 gallon, which would be moved in to the 20 gallon tank
