Which fish with angels

I have a 55 gal tank (21" tall) that is cycling now. I would like to put in 3-4 angels, what other fish go great with them. Wife want neons but I know they are going to get ate, so what other colorful fish can I add. Or other fish that will work, how many of each, been 20 yrs since I had a tank. Thanks.[/list]

I know many hobbyists report having their Neons get eaten by their Angelfish, but i have never seen this occur in my aquariums. This leads me to believe that the Neons are actually dying and then being lost in the aquarium, rather than eaten.

In any case, I am confident that you can keep any peaceful schooling Tetra that is not bite size. Perhaps try adult Cardinal Tetra's, which have a little more girth. You may also look into Rummynose Tetras, if you can find a good supplier of healthy fish.

Angels become aggressive with each other come spawning time, so be prepared to give the angels who won't be in the spawning pair another home when that time comes.

Black phantom tetra, rummynose tetra or diamond tetra would be safe with the angels. They're middle-level swimmers and fast enough for any overtures by the angels. I'd get six each of any two types of these tetras.

You may want to put in 3-5 hatchetfish for the upper level. Be careful though, as these fish tend to jump out of water, so it'd be good if your tank has a hood.

A pair of bristlenose plecos and one Hoplo catfish would round up the community, IMO.
