I just got a pair of electrice yellow cichilids. And a pair of red zebra cichlids. I have a 30 to 40 gallon tank not sure exact size yet. It is all cycled. The fish are bout 3 to 4 inchs. the yellows had fry already with them in the females mouth. 12 of them. Now my ? is, is my tank to small for them or no? The 4 adults. The fry i moved to my 75 gallon fry tank.`1

Max size on both species is 4-5 inches I believe, but I would say putting the adults in the bigger tank would be a better choice.

Well, if you go by the inch of fish per gallon rule, which isn't really a sound way to go..you have four 4" fish...so 40 gallons minimum space. Everything I've seen on even the small cichlids says a 50 gallon is a much better choice. You could try it though. They might be ok, but I myself would put the adults in the bigger tank and let the fry grow out in the 38. Its up to you I suppose.
