Dwarf Cichlids kept singly?

I would like to keep some dwarf cichlids in the future but wouldn't want to deal the breeding and the concomitant aggression that could occur with groups or pairs.

The tank would have groups of tetras, corys, pencilfish and the like.

Would it be okay to keep just one Apistogramma borellii, Laetacara curviceps, or Cleithracara maronii, in a community tank (maybe not all three together, but only one of each species regardless of total number)? Would having male or female matter in such circumstances?

Should be okay keeping them singly, although I would make sure that they would be compatiable with the other fish that you are wanting to keep. I am sure Byron will know more about these fish. Looking to see what I can find about them myself, always interesting in finding out about different fish, even the ones that I don't have personally.

All the fish you mentioned are very peaceful I doubt you will have trouble with aggression. Depending on the size of the tank you can keep all 3.

"responsible fish keeper?... Didn't know there was any other kind"

I am not retarded I just can't spell
