Diving into Malawi Chichlids

Hello All,

I'm moving at the end of this month, which means it's almost time. That's right, I'm going to do a Malawi Cichlid tank.

It will be a 75 gallon tank. The decoration will be mostly black rocks, lots of rockwork, that sort of thing. No plants. Well stocked with fish. The standard Malawi cichlid model.

I'm having trouble developing a list of fish to stock. The only definite resident of the tank will be my Synodontis Eupterus who is growing like a weed and is just about too big for his current 30 gallon home. I've been cruising around looking, picking out fish that I like the look of, but it's difficult to then cross-check them all over the place and determine who will be compatible with whom.

Are there any good resources that members know of, maybe somewhere I can get a good starting guideline for stocking a 75 gal. that I can deviate a bit from to fit my own fish preferences?

Are there any of you out there who have/had Malawi tanks and can give me any "If I could start the tank all over again, I would definitely..." type stories?

Is there one definitive book that I ought to buy before I start into this task?

I've read that the best thing to do is to stock it all at once to prevent territorial behavior. Do folks here agree with that? How do you pull that off? Do you find a good LFS and get the whole lot ordered and in stock waiting for you at the same time?

Any other general tips and tricks?

Thanks,

--Seth
