I keep my Discus in a planted tank with a few other community fish. Mine have always been with other fish since They have owned me. They do fine with other smalller tetras and such. The small fish also feed off the bits of lefovers from the Discus. I keep the water at 82-84, 25% PWC every week with a pH of 7.6. Feed my own beefheart mix, frozen bloodworms, quality flake, mashed peas. They DO like to be with their own, so I don't think I would keep just one. I have also had them spawn 3 times since Thankgiving, but don't ever think they will get fertilized as my water is hard and alkaline. So they must be content. I have seen from my own experience that sometimes one gets pushed to the side and the others have literally brow beat it into submission so that it does not eat. Falls under the Survival of the Fittest. It's the cruel side of Mother Nature.
