i have a 29 gal that i am going to adventually set up. i have been think about what i want to put in their.... i was thinking about discus. what are the basics that i should know to see if this is a fish that i can keep
Agreed, first thing I'd suggest if you want discus is a bigger tank, 55G minimum. For a 29 schooling tetra like rummynose, cardinals, etc are good, maybe even some livebearers like swords & platys, just be aware that you probably can get about 20-25 fish, tops, in there depending on size & disposition. HTH!!
