Yeah I was trying so hard to get a picture of the oscar facing me. But with several other large fish in the tank as soon as I put my finger to the glass to get him to face it they all came swimming in and it was like a crazy fish mosh pit. Thanks though, it just looks really bad like it's so messed up I wonder how he eats? I was just being paranoid about one of the people that work there thinking I'm a freakin weirdo and because I wanted to hand in a resume (I want a job there SO bad) I didn't want that to effect their judgment of me. Lol even though I'm sure if I get the job there they will find out soon enough Anywho thanks again, keep your fingers crossed for me If I get a job there, there will be much less neglected sick fish in the world... Well not in the world but in my region.

ouch, poor thing...

i also recently saw another deformed oscar... the right side of his face was missing... starting with his eyes, down to his mouth, it was caved in... obviously, one of the eyes were missing. it was as if another fish took a big bite... it didnt seem like a recent injury... the fish was swiming fine with the other oscars. the store owner was walking with me, and when i pointed to him, boom, he immediately moved the fish to the back room... it was a recent batch, and he didnt notice that before...

well, just wanted to share.

Aw thats so sad :( They probably disposed of the fish. I don't want the same thing to happen to this one. I would buy it but I don't have enough space for an oscar. But it probably won't sell because it looks awful. I hope someone with a bigger tank feels the same way as I do.

It looks like an old battle scar. When most cichlids fight they lock lips and try to push the other fish to show its power to the other fish, in the event that one is much stronger than the other they can loose parts or the whole lip. This has happened twice in all the time i've owned cichlids and both times I had to get rid of the fish for its own safety.
