Start with several, they will pair (if you happen to get male & female) and you can then remove the rest. Ours does well with a large bala shark, assorted large rainbows, a clown Loach, rubbernose pleco, flying fox and eel. There's also a dojo loach that's fairly small but he hides in my anubia and knowone bothers him.
I was just going to have 2 just in-case they paired off. The only other fish i wanted with them were some powder blue gourami's
