Could my jewel cichlids be Jack Dempseys...

I was given 3 free "Jewel Cichlid" juvies.... I did some research and decided I would like to try these fish I was planning on putting them in my 2 10 gallons tanks until the LFS opened and I could buy a larger tank ( i was only supposed to get 2 fish and found 3 in the bag when I got home)... but these fish are black in color with a red border on the dorsel fin.... and blue sparkle( not sure if this is a great decription) by it's gills.... Are there jewel cichlids that match this decription? How much different are JD's from Jewel cichlids?

They are pretty different looking fish. A picture would really help.

this was the best pic I could get they are changing back and forth from blackish to this brownish color

x3 on the Jack Dempsey, and from here it looks to be a male.
