Hello out there in fishy land, i am not sure if there is already a post on this or not but i thought i would ask. I have 2 convitcs in my 30 gal tank, and there small about a n inch to an inch and a half. i am wondering what can i put in there with them. I had a placo in there with them but must be he was to small, they killed him. OH and i have a male and a female so i know that makes a differnce.
When i was setting up my 65 gal, i bought two Convicts. I had read they would do fine in a community tank, but they where a real nightmare. Cool fish, but they would not leave anyone alone. Always chasing my TigerBarbs an Tinfoils around. After a TigerBarb death, I returned them to the store. My recommendation would be to add one or two more convicts, or a couple more cichlids of equal size and aggressiveness.
My recommendation is not to put anything in that tank that you value the life of. 30 gallons is a good sized tank for a pair of convicts, but if yours pair up they will breed like rabbits and do a VERY good job of defending their fry from any threats, perceived or actual. In a much larger tank, you could probably do a school of something like giant danios that would stay out of harm's way, or *possibly* another new world cichlid that could stand up for itself like a green terror or Jack Dempsey (although that would be risky) but in a tank your size pretty much anything is going to be killed.
So sorry for your loss!:-( Have you checked water quality? Want to keep it extra clean with an injured fish.
