Generally the females are larger(more robust) than the males, and have a reddish underside. This will show itself more in spawining.

with adult convicts the male should have a hump on its head and the female dosent.

Thats not always a good sexing tool. Since a lot of males wont get it and a very select few females could get what some would consider a starter hump.
