Thats sounds like a pretty awesome idea haha. Cichlids dont really leave you much room to add anything else, so its awesome but frustrating when you get hooked on em'

You could try other central american cichlids like firemouths. They aren't as vicious as convicts but are still easy to breed. You could keep a pair in 30 gallon easy. You could put large fast moving tetras and barbs with them and large livebearers.

As for convict tankmates... I agree for the most part there ain't a whole lot you could put with them but remember every fish is different. I have seen convicts with tiger barbs and buenos aires tetras. The barbs and tetras are too fast for the convicts to catch and they help take the heat of the female who is often killed by the male. In larger tanks they do well with large livebears too.
