Compatibility of GBRs and dwarf cockatoo cichlids

I have a couple of GBRs in my 55 gallon. Hardness is 120ppm & pH 7.2 The tank is heavily planted and also has neon, black neon & glowlight tetras and harlequin rasboras.
I would like to know if it would be possible to put in a pair of dwarf cockatoo cichlids.

Yes--maybe. I would make sure there are lots of plants and chunks of wood to break up the line of sight so the fish can get well out of sight of each other.

Just be aware though that they will continually challenge each other. I have had two species of dwarf cichlid in my 70g (also 4 feeet like your 55g) and would not do it again. I believe that two of the females were in fact killed due to the continual "pushing" of the other species. Cichlids are cichlids; females can be very nasty to other females especially if they are guarding eggs and fry, and cichlids will spawn regularly. Any cichlid is going to regard such a small space (to the fish) as "his territory," and females seem to go along with him.

My advice is to limit cichlids to one species in a tank--thinking here of the South American species. Rift lake cichlids is another matter.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

The pH of your tank is too high for them, they like a range of 6-6.5 and the GBR will more than likely harass them to death.

10g Fry / Hospital / QT tank (as needed)

75g Saltwater Reef, Ocellaris Clownfish, Lyretail Antias (baby), Lemon damsel, Longtail Fairy Wrasse, purple dottyback, snails, crabs and a few LPS corals.

220g Still sitting empty (come on Lottery I need the numbers to come up!)

Thanks for the feedback ! I'll wait until I have another tank / GBRs have passed on.
