Compatibility between Apisto Cacatuoides and Kribensis

I have a 60 litre aquarium and would like to check the compatibility between Apistogramma cacatuoides and Kribensis. I am going to make 1 pair of each in this aquarium and several clay pots.

I would like to breed these 2 species. I will be using only rain water.

Nothing wrong with compatibility they would both work in your tank.

I would be slightly concerned about using just rain water though, the pH might be too low for the fish which need around pH 7.

I would go with one or the other species were it me.
Kribensis I have kept, grew a bit larger than I expected (5 inches ) and when gaurding fry,,the much smaller appisto's would forever be trying to avoid the parent's or fry from Kribensis when the Kribensis start to move the fry about during feeding's. (around four weeks ).
Kribensis I kept had no trouble shooing away cory's,Keyhole Cichlid's,and Acara's at this time.
Would need to mix some tap water with the rain water to provide mineral's that fish need for stuctural development or use product such as Eqilibrium by Seachem. IMHO

Could work, but I would not expect to see much of the smaller appisto's if and when the Kribs spawn and produce fry, such as you have stated you would like for them to do.
The appisto's will stay hidden during this time if they can. (might spook easily as the Krib's grow larger as well)
I would set up small tank for the appisto's were it me, and keep both species seperate.

I think the small size of this tank has not been noticed by previous members who have responded. A 15g (60 liter) is not sufficient space for two species of any cichlids.

Assuming this tank is 24 inches in length, you could have one or the other species, a pair if Kribensis or a trio (1 male, 2 female) of Apistogramma cacatuoides (this is a harem species). Both species are in our profiles with data, click the shaded names.

Agreed, in a 15 gallon tank there's not room for both.

If you want to try your hand at breeding, it's better to focus on that and make a great setup for which one you choose - personally for me that means plants, driftwood, rocks, etc. Then you can have other dither fish that like to hang out in mid or top water and have a really beautiful little tank.
