Cichlids are pigs

I was just wondering if theres any thing you can feed them that will make them not as hungry. I go through half a bottle of pellets in almost 2 weeks. Thank you[/img]

Nope. Cichlids are heavy eaters. I use almost a 1/2 pound a week in my tanks. I feed them a generic pellet for cihlids and spirulina pellets. I get these from my lfs in bulk. They come in 5-10 pound containers. I have seen them, also, on petsolutions.com website. They may eat the same amount, but buying food in bulk is much cheaper.

Well, if you dont feed them at all, then eventually they wont be hungry at all. Of course that's when they begin feeding the bacteria in the tank some meatier food. :D

Great advice Herefishy. Bulk food purchases will definately help offset the cost. You can also try www.drsfostersmith.com too.

Take pride in what you do, for it is a reflection of who you are.

Discusgirl,

Cichlids will eat every time you put food in the tank. It is important to not over feed them, especially if the pellet contains alot of animal protein as this can result in a sickness called bloat. Put enough food in the tank which they can consume within 90-120 seconds. Do this 3-4 times a day, and you should be fine.
